In what could be a major relief to Phondekars, Ponda Municipal Council  has successfully managed to  convince two Ganeshotsav Mandals to shift their celebrations from present prime venues in the city to  New Market and Kranti Maidan respectively  to ease traffic congestion.

As per the new arrangements Budhwar Peth Ganesh festival will be held in the new market and Sadar Ganeshotsav will  take place at the  historic Kranti Maidan.

Dy Chairperson  of PMC Shantaram Kolvekar in the presence of councilor Irwin Soares and  Municipal Engineer Ashique Shaikh briefed  media persons  about the issues arising due to pandal erections and other activities  being conducted at the present locations of   Upper Bazar and in the vicinity of Ponda Police station.

After PMC discussed the issues with   Budhwar Peth Ganeshotsav Mandal and  Sadar Ganeshotsav Mandal, both  agreed to shift their venues to new locations.

“We are thankful to both the mandals,” said  Dy Chairperson  Kolveker.

Meanwhile Chief officer of PMC Navnath Naik along with Dy Chairperson  Kolveker, Councillor   Soares  and the technical staff visited   Ponda town to  survey the areas in which  traffic congestions prominently occurs.

Naik who has taken charge  as PMC Chief Officer on Friday said  he needs to  have  a detailed know how of the town. “This will help me in effective decision making,”, he told City Breaking reporter.
