Mapusa Power dept LDC Vinod Mayekar has been arrested in the alleged Rs 28 lakh swindling case after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the local court.
Mapusa police had earlier registered offense under Section 409 and 420 of IPC against Mayekar who was employed with electricity department, Mapusa, for breach of trust and cheating following a complaint by the executive engineer.Mapusa police registered an offence against Mayekar under Section 409 and 420 of IPC.
Mapusa was employed as a LDC with division 17 of the electricity department. He has been accused of drawing a salary in the name of six staff members (ghost employees) amounting to 28 lakhs. Police said that this was done from April 2014 to January 2016, and amounting to 28 lakh.
Bogus names were entered in the salary bills statement copy which was sent to the accounts department and not in the office copy at Mapusa. The accounts in three banks, which Mayekar was allegedly operating hae been freezed since.
