Goan truck owners associations have opposed the installation of RFID and speed governors on their vehicles and demanded revision in transportation rates before the mining season starts in the state. In a jointly held  press conference, the North & South Goa Truck Owners associations demanded thorough discussion over recent notification by Mines department and appealed to the truck owners not to engage in transportation and warned that it may lead to law and order problems.

Truckers said that they are opposing  all the points mentioned in the notification by Mines Department dated 31 August regarding starting of new mining season.  Stating that the mines department has already made rule for them to transport the ore at 40  km/hr speed they demanded exclusion from installing speed governance.

Alleging that the truckers were not taken into confidence like last year, Sandeep Parab said , “ This year too mines department had promised that before commencement of new mining season , we will be taken into confidence. But it directly went ahead and issued notification  and  uploaded it on  the department website”.

Another truck owner Satyawan Gaonkar said , “In 2007 we went to High Court against speed governance which gave abeyance. We appeal to the government to approach the Supreme Court now  and exclude the truck owners especially in mining transportation in Goa from installing speed governors.”

Truck owners on their own will not be able to financially afford   approaching  SC  he added.
