7,000 contract workers to get EPF benefits from 2017 under one-time scheme : Cabinet decision

Digital Goa, Nov 12 – State Cabinet today gave nod to a one-time scheme to grant Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) benefits to nearly 7,000 contract workers, with effect from 2017. Making the announcement at the cabinet briefing, CM Sawant said the scheme is likely to place an estimated ₹2.5–3 crore burden on the state treasury.

Other Cabinet Decisions
▪️ Retirement age of Chief Engineers in key departments extended to 62 years
Cabinet approved the decision to increase the retirement age of Chief Engineers in the Public Works Department (PWD), Directorate of Design and Works (DDW), Electricity Department, and Water Resources Department (WRD) to 62 years. However, the extension will apply only when no eligible candidate is available for promotion to the post.

▪️ Temporary work-charge appointments henceforth to follow 6th Pay Commission
All work-charge appointments made on a temporary basis in the state henceforth will be governed by the 6th Pay Commission pay structure. The pay structure of the existing temporary employees will not be changed, CM added.

▪️ Cabinet approves transfer of one lakh sq mtr land for Veterinary College
The Goa Cabinet has approved the transfer of over one lakh square meters of government land to the Goa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences located at Curti and Codar on a 33-year lease.
