9% of Goa’s population receives water for less than 4 hours a day claims DWD Minister

Digital Goa, Sept 3 – Drinking Water Department (DWD) Minister Subhash Faldessai today claimed that only 9% of Goa’s population receives water for less than 4 hours a day. He announced that within the next six months, the govt will ensure an average supply of 12 hours daily to all consumers, with 325 MLD of water being made available for public use. Faldessai said that at least 40% of consumers will get water for over 18 hours a day. Presently, 45% receive water for 8 hours daily, while 24% enjoy a round-the-clock supply, he asserted. Speaking to the media after a review meeting with the department, he said a detailed report is expected within 15 days, based on which measures will be taken to improve supply and reduce leakage losses, which currently stands at 40%. He further proposed installing 800 to 900 water flow meters on Goa’s 560 water tanks to monitor flow, consumption and gaps.
