Digital Goa, Feb 22- Total of 93 nests, collectively accounting for 9460 Olive Ridley Turtle eggs have been recorded in Goa as per official reports. 150 hatchlings have been successfully released into the sea. Around, 30 eggs have been spoiled, underscoring the delicate nature of this process. The recent monitoring on February 21-22, 2024, revealed a total of 1996 eggs across various nesting sites. Among these, Morjim leads with 9 nests, followed by Mandrem and Vagator with 3 each, Candolim with 2, and Calangute, Keri, and Arambol with 1 nest each. The beaches are monitored by special marine watchers deployed under Marine Range North Goa, ensuring round-the-clock protection. Since 1996, the Goa Forest Department and local communities have collaborated to safeguard Olive Ridley Sea turtles.
