The Konkani Lyrics Contest 2024 culminated in a vibrant Awards Nite on December 22, 2024, at the Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji, Goa, celebrating the creativity and passion of 54 participants who showcased their love for Avoi-bhas Konkani. The evening was filled with excitement, music, and camaraderie, as the event brought together people from diverse backgrounds to honor Konkani’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.

This year’s contest featured an impressive collection of 136 new Konkani Gits (songs) crafted by participants, each inspired by melodies from 108 Global Hits spanning 21 source languages. The initiative sought to enrich the Konkani musicscape by blending global music with original Konkani lyrics. By doing so, the contest aimed to promote Konkani unity, fostering greater understanding and collaboration between Goan Hindu and Christian cultural paradigms. It also served as a platform for creating modern, youth-relevant Konkani songs while celebrating the language’s splendid diversity.

In a close competition, Lloyed Pereira emerged as the winner with his song Kuttureo… Korum-ia Mog, a Konkani adaptation of Dan Balan’s global hit Allegro Ventigo. The second place was awarded to Monica Fernandes for her song Sonvsara Mathear, based on Top of the World by The Carpenters. Meanwhile, Gladys Victoria secured third place with her Konkani rendition of the Marathi classic Zingat by Ajay and Atul Gogavale.

The contest was a testament to Konkani’s adaptability and its potential to connect generations through music. By encouraging participants to infuse their compositions with contemporary themes and traditional values, the event demonstrated how Konkani music can evolve while remaining true to its roots. The celebration concluded on a high note, leaving attendees inspired and optimistic about the future of Konkani music and its growing global appeal.
