Jan 30 – Panaji Coastal Security Police Station seized a canoe/vessel containing approximately 5 cubic meters of freshly extracted sand, valued at around Rs 10 lakhs , during the intervening night of January 29-30, 2025. The vessel was allegedly involved in illegal sand extraction in the Mandovi River. One accused, Sameer Mondal (30), a native of West Bengal, has been apprehended and placed under arrest while engaging in illegal sand extraction under the cover of darkness. 12 other suspected accused persons have also been booked in the matter.
