Digital Goa, Feb 27 – Regional Passport Office in Goa has started issuing e-passports on a pilot basis for civilians. These passports feature an embedded chip storing biometric data for enhanced security. The trial phase aims to assess the functionality of the chip, biometric data collection, and passport readers while identifying potential issues. The Union Ministry of External Affairs, which launched the project in April 2024, will gather feedback from users and immigration officers before a nationwide rollout. Goa is the third passport office to offer the facility after Nagpur and Bhubaneswar.
