Digital Goa, 10, July – Goa government has rolled out the “Mukhel Mantri Nustekar Mazat Yevjan” scheme from 2025-26 to support families of deceased fishers. Under the scheme, the next of kin of registered fishermen, crew, or allied workers aged 18 to 70 will receive a one-time compensation of up to Rs 50,000, irrespective of the cause of death. A Rs 20 lakh non-lapsable corpus fund will back the scheme, overseen by a committee chaired by the Fisheries Minister. Claims must be filed within three months of death along with required documents. The scheme aims to provide financial relief to fishing families facing hazardous working conditions.
