Digital Goa, June 1 – Liquor Traders Association members met State Excise commissioner today demanding that the state should refrain from giving licenses to wine shops at Manohar International Airport. They claimed that file pertaining to allotment of Liquor Licences for 3 outlets at Mopa to a non Goan company with Goan partner has already been moved. “As airports are areas where permissions are required for entering for inspection, liquor shops cannot be set up there. However, a notification is likely to be issued to override this clause so that licences can be given at the discretion of the CM,” claimed Trader Association Leader Dattaprasad Naik. The association urged govt not to go ahead with the plan. They also said that due to continued rise in excise duty over the last 10 years, liquor prices in North India are much lower as compared to those in Goa. This they claimed had affected their business badly. They asked the govt to fulfill the promise of reducing duty on foreign liquor made during the last assembly session.
