100 % ban on road digging sans PWD nod soon; road digging cost to be recovered from erring contractors : CM

Digital Goa, August 1 – Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday announced that the Goa government will soon impose a 100% ban on road digging without prior permission from the Public Works Department (PWD). He said that a circular to this effect will be issued shortly. Sawant pointed out the lack of coordination among departments, noting that roads repaired by one agency are often dug up soon after by another. To curb this, the government is considering recovering road digging and repair costs from contractors in cases where PWD permission is not obtained. It will be made mandatory to complete all types of cabling and piping work together when major roads are being built, he added. Highlighting road safety concerns, Sawant admitted that nearly 50% of accidents in Goa are due to poor road conditions and signal issues.
