Digital Goa, August 25 – Goa government has formally issued directions to Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies today, prohibiting them from charging Sopo or any fees from traditional Matoli vendors during Ganesh Chaturthi. In a circular issued by the Directorate of Panchayats, village Panchayat Secretaries have been instructed to ensure that vendors selling traditional Matoli items in local markets are not taxed or levied any charges during the festival. Similarly, the Department of Urban Development has directed the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and all Municipal Councils not to levy any charges on Matoli vendors within their jurisdictions.
