South Goa comunidades administrator rejected plea to use community funds for court fight against new regularisation law : Margao and Aquem Comunidade members

Digital Goa, Sept 4 – The South Goa Administrator of Comunidades has rejected the request of the Margao and Aquem Comunidades to utilise community funds to legally challenge the recently formulated laws related to Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction in Communidade Land Laws in the High Court. The comunidades had sought to finance court proceedings against the legislation, which they argue undermines the traditional rights and ownership of comunidade lands. We are still going ahead with filing of the writ petition against the new laws using personal funds, the Comunidade members asserted while speaking to media after the monthly meeting of the comunidades. Incidentally, several communidades across Goa are up in arms against the new legislation while a handful have also expressed support for it.
