Margao assault suspect arrested at Kolkata airport after a year

Digital Goa, Sept 24 – A suspect who had fled to London following an alleged assault on a government officer in Margao has been apprehended at Kolkata International Airport after nearly a year. The accused, Rodney Gomes (37), a resident of Ambaji, Fatorda, was taken into custody on arrival. The incident dates back to March 18, 2024, when Gomes reportedly stormed into the office of the Inspector of Survey and Land Records at the Mathany Saldanha Complex at Margao. He allegedly assaulted the head surveyor attached to the office after an argument over his application for a specific service. Gomes had allegedly used his helmet to attack the government official before fleeing the scene. Fatorda police had issued a lookout notice against him. Suspecting that he had left the country, authorities had also contacted airport officials to intercept Gomes, which eventually led to his arrest at Kolkata airport.
