Digital Goa, Nov 6 – Pernem Police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 in connection with the death of Umakant Khot, aged 63, a resident of Varchawada, Morjim. As per legal provisions, Section 194 of the BNSS applies in cases where death occurs under suspicious circumstances, including deaths in police custody or any custody authorized by a court. In such situations, a magistrate-led inquiry is mandatory in addition to the regular police investigation.
