Digital Goa, Nov 6 – Several major decisions were approved to further strengthen Goa’s waste management framework, in the 17th Board Meeting of the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) chaired by CM Pramod Sawant. The meeting cleared the empanelment of additional door-to-door collection agencies and PMCs, and also approved an MoU with the DSDE and GSPCB to launch a Waste Management Technician course along with a Centre of Excellence for training Urban Local Bodies. It was decided to implement five-way segregation in educational institutions and install sanitary waste incinerators and dispensers in all Government offices. The board further approved the removal of legacy hazardous waste from Sunrise Zinc in Cuncolim for scientific disposal at the authorised Pissurlem facility, and sanctioned wet-waste vehicles for Saligao and Taleigao through GIZ funding. Other decisions included promoting decentralised biomethanation (CBG) through PPP model, extending Goa’s partnership with SINTEF (Norway) for the C&D waste project, and launching a PET bottle recycling pilot in collaboration with Village Recyclers Foundation, which will also support women self-help groups.
