Digital Goa, May 7 – Goa recorded the highest rape rate among all states in the country in 2024, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on May 6, 2026. The state registered a rape rate of 13.3 per lakh population, over three times the national average of 4.3. While Rajasthan recorded the highest number of rape cases nationally, its rape rate stood at 12.2. Chandigarh recorded the highest rate overall among states and Union Territories at 16.6. The NCRB data for Goa showed that 105 rape cases were registered in Goa under IPC/BNS provisions in 2024, involving 106 survivors. Of the total survivors, 65 — nearly 61% — were below 18 years of age, while 41 were adults. Goa also recorded the highest rape rate for minors in the country at 8.1 per lakh population.
Meanwhile, Goa recorded a conviction rate of 9.4% in crimes against women, while pendency stood at 91.2%. A total of 1,682 cases were pending trial from previous years, while 237 fresh cases were sent for trial during 2024.
However, Goa’s overall crime against women rate stood at 45.2 per lakh women population, lower than the national average of 64.6.
