Digital Goa, May 11 – Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the controversy surrounding the State government’s “mandatory” smart meter installation drive, observing that the move prima facie raises concerns of violation of human rights.
The action was initiated based on a report published in local daily on May 9 under the headline “Govt’s ‘mandatory’ smart meter push sparks revolt.” In its order dated May 11, the Commission issued notice to the Chief Electrical Engineer of the Electricity Department, seeking a report and reply in the matte on June 2.
