Central Water Commission to undertake river discharge studies ahead on monsoons from May 28 to 30

Digital Goa, May 25 – Captain of Ports Department has issued a notice to mariners advising caution for all vessels operating near designated river stretches in Goa as the Central Water Commission (CWC), Govt of India, undertakes manual river discharge and velocity studies later this week. The studies will be conducted at multiple locations across Goa. As per the schedule, measurements will be carried out on the Mandovi River near Panaji and the fisheries jetty on May 28, on the Terekhol River near Querim on May 29, approximately 100 metres downstream of the Aronda bridge, and on May 30 at two locations, the Chapora River near Colvale, about 200 metres upstream of the Colvale-Dargal bridge, and the Zuari River near Borim, around 200 metres downstream of the Borim bridge. All barges, fishing boats and passenger vessels operating near the study zones have been asked to proceed cautiously, reduce speed and avoid disrupting the operations. The data collected is expected to help establish pre-monsoon river flow baselines and support long-term water resource monitoring, flood forecasting and environmental modelling.
