One-year shack policy extension announced; drone surveillance and work pods proposed

Digital Goa, June 8 – The Goa Government has decided to extend the State Shack Policy by one more year after the existing Goa State Shack Policy 2023–2026 expired on May 31, 2026. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said all applicants will be granted the necessary permissions before August 15 to ensure shacks are operational and ready for the tourism season beginning September 1.
Khaunte also announced that the Tourism Department is considering the use of drones for beach surveillance across Goa. The proposed system would monitor issues such as garbage dumping, tourist safety, tout activity and other illegalities along beaches from North to South Goa. He said the surveillance mechanism would function on the lines of the Beach Vigil App, with data collected through drones being used to initiate enforcement action wherever required.
The minister further floated the idea of setting up work pods on beaches to enable professionals to work remotely while enjoying Goa’s coastal environment.
