Digital Goa, June 14 – CM Pramod Sawant on Sunday announced that water harvesting will be made mandatory for all borewell users as part of the government’s efforts to conserve water and recharge groundwater sources. Sawant said the Water Resources Department (WRD) has been directed to issue a circular to borewell users making water conservation measures compulsory. Highlighting forecasts of below-normal rainfall this monsoon, Sawant stressed the need to conserve rainwater and recharge reservoirs, wells and groundwater sources wherever possible. With a rain deficit being forecast this year, it is important to take steps to recharge water reservoirs and conserve water. If such measures are not implemented now, the state could face major water shortages next year, Sawant said.
