GSEIAA has sought more time to decide on requirement of EC for Karapur-Sarvan project: Villagers

Digital Goa, June 15 – Villagers of Karapur-Sarvan on Monday demanded that the minutes of the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (GSEIAA) meeting held today be uploaded on the department website within the next two days so that they can decide their future course of action based on the outcome. The villagers, who have been protesting against the proposed project in their village for the past 71 days, arrived in Panaji in the morning and waited outside the Environment Department office until evening after being informed that the GSEIAA meeting would be held later in the day. A large police force was deployed at the protest venue. Following a lengthy meeting of the GSEIAA, which discussed whether Environmental Clearance (EC) is required for the project, representatives of the villagers met Environment Department Director and GCZMA Member Secretary Sachin Dessai. The Director informed them that further deliberations by the three-member committee are required before a final decision can be taken on the matter.
