HC Protects Russian Mother in Goa from Deportation Pending Visa Decision

Digital Goa, July 28 – High Court has directed immigration authorities not to take coercive action against a Russian national residing in Anjuna until her visa application is decided, citing the welfare of her three minor daughters studying in Goa. The court asked the authorities to consider her case for a Miscellaneous Visa on humanitarian grounds and decide it within four weeks. The petitioner, lady, was earlier granted an X-1 visa as the mother of three OCI cardholders, but her extension application remained unresolved. While reiterating that foreign nationals have no inherent right to remain in India, the High Court observed that the interests of the three minor children could not be ignored and directed authorities to objectively consider her application without rejecting it solely because her marriage to an Indian citizen had ended.
