Digital Goa, August 10 – Goa Human Rights Commission has termed a bank’s prolonged withholding of ₹7.13 lakh in retirement benefits of a former employee as “unjustified, arbitrary and unreasonable”.The employee retired in 2008, but his benefits were kept under lien in connection with a criminal case. Despite being discharged by a Sessions Court in January 2025, the amount was released only in July 2026 after he approached the Commission.The Commission directed the bank to pay ₹10,000 as costs within a month, failing which 8% annual interest will apply. It also allowed the bank to recover the amount from erring officials.
