Digital Goa, Aug 26 – In a serious indictment of police conduct, the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has found that five persons, including a 17-year-old minor, were illegally detained overnight in the Maina-Curtorim Police Station barracks and physically assaulted by police personnel.The incident occurred on the intervening night of June 6–7, 2026 , at the Maina-Curtorim Police Station . The five persons were kept at the police station throughout the night and released on the morning of June 7. Medical examination found abrasions, bruises, tenderness and swelling on the victims. The Commission noted that they were detained without an FIR, Station Diary entry or any legal authority. Statements recorded during the inquiry alleged that five police personnel PSI Sanket Naik, PSI Gaurav Naik, HC Samir Sudhir, PC Pundalik Parit and PC Chetan Koli assaulted the victims, forced them to perform indecent acts and demanded money for their release. All five were subsequently suspended. Calling the conduct “brutal action” capable of eroding public confidence in the police, the GHRC recommended compensation of ₹20,000 each to the five victims within 30 days and sought a report on the disciplinary proceedings.
