Canals to be supplied with river water for now to save dam water for summers

With the objective of conserving water in the dams for use in the dry summer months, Goa govt plans to bring water into the canals from rivers instead of dams for now, said WRD Minister Shirodkar. For instance Kushavati water will be brought till Navelim and pumped into the canals instead of getting it from Salaulim dam, thus conserving water in the dam, added Shirodkar. The minister also briefed the media on several other project of the department including 250 MLD project on river Sal which is to commence from Oct 20, desilting and retaining wall on river bank for river Tar- file for which is under process and building of 100 check dams or bandharas by April-May 2024 on rivers across Goa. Each of these bandharas will cost between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, he added. He informed that the Khandepar Bandhara work was delayed due to the monsoons but will be completed soon.
