Digital Goa, Dec 11 – Goa government will recruit 2 to 4 divers under Fire & Emergency Services(FES) to aid in search and rescue operations during drowning emergencies, informed CM Pramod Sawant. He was speaking during the launch of 6 new vehicles by the dept. “We don’t have divers. We take them on call,” said CM. We will recruitment of 2 to 4 divers under FES itself, he added. He called on the need to further strengthen the dept due to its crucial role in emergency and Disaster Management.
Incidentally, the lack of divers was starkly felt during drowning of 18-year-old Mumbai youth in a stone quarry at Chimbel last month. The family had to locate and seek help of private divers, loosing on crucial time during rescue efforts.
