Digital Goa, Jan 15 – Goa govt will successfully handle the battle of Mhadei through legal, technical and  political means, asserted CM Pramod Sawant today. He virtually addressed people of the state today evening ahead of the opposition backed mega Save Mhadei Save Goa public meeting scheduled at Virdi in Sakhali. Asserting that despite petitions in Supreme Court by NGOs and several other hurdles, his govt managed to solve the problems of two Ms i.e. Mining and Mopa, Sawant exuded confidence that his govt will be equally successful in handling the issue of the third M i.e. Mhadei. The issue will be taken care of in view of next 50 to 100 years, he added. He reiterated that his govt has asked the center to withdraw the approval given to Karnataka DPR and also set up Mhadei Water Management Authority to ensure that none of the riparian states indulge in actions leading to depletion of flow of water in Mhadei basin. All reports including salinity report have been submitted to the Supreme Court, we are confident that we will get justice, Sawant said.

If opposition had participated in the all-party meeting called by the Government, the ruling party would have also joined the public meeting called by the opposition tomorrow, claimed Pramod Sawant. “We too would have been present at Azad Maidan to raise hands with them yesterday,” said CM referring to the joint opposition party meeting held yesterday to announce support to the Save Goa Save Mhadei front public meeting to be held at Virdi tomorrow evening. “Opposition is only interested in doing politics on Mhadei,” he alleged. Sawant went on to further allege that Mhadei water was diverted during Congress period and opposition leaders who are now opposing the diversion were in Congress then.
