Leopard population in Goa dipped by 10 % in 4 years: MoEF&CC report

Digital Goa, Mar 1 – As opposed to the nationwide rise of 8%, leopard population in Goa dropped by nearly 10 % in the 4 years between 2018 to 2022 as per the report released by Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) yesterday. As per the report the estimated leopard population in Goa in 2022 stood at 77 as opposed to the estimated tiger population of 86 (approx. 83 to 89) in 2018. Incidentally, nationwide there has been 8 per cent (1,022) increase in the leopard population in India in the same four year period. Estimated leopard population in 70% of the leopard occupied area in India is now 13,874, up from 12,852 in 2018.
