Digital Goa, April 22: Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) today arrested Police Inspector(PI) Sunil Gudler of Konkan Railway Police Station, Margao, and police constable Hussain, in a bribery case involving a Belgaum-based businessman licensed to supply goat meat. According to SP Nelson Albuquerque, the ACB received a complaint alleging that PI Gudler had demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh and a monthly payment of Rs 25,000 from the businessman. The demand was reportedly conveyed to the complainant through constable Hussain. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap. Yesterday, ACB team caught the accused red-handed while accepting an advance payment of Rs 25,000. The transaction took place inside the office of PI Sunil Gudler, in the presence of the complainant and constable Hussain. The Rs 25,000 cash was later recovered from a drawer in PI Gudler’s office, Albuquerque said. The businessman had earlier allegedly been threatened with arrest by PI Gudler in connection with a case registered on March 30 against unknown persons. Despite informing the officer that he had no involvement in the matter, the complainant alleged that he was summoned and intimidated, Albuquerque further informed. “We will be placing a formal demand for the suspension of both accused officers,” he added.
