Akshaypatra Kitchen finally gets going in Goa, to provide mid day meals to Saligao and surrounding area schools

Digital Goa, Mar 17 – Akshaypatra Kitchen was inaugurated by CM Pramod Sawant at the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelters at Saligao today with a capacity of 5000 Meals per day. This is the 78th kitchen of Akshatyaptra and Goa is the 18th state in the country where such kitchens have been started. Students from schools in surrounding areas will be provided mid-day meals through the kitchens. The mi-day-meal scheme is restricted to students upto 8th standard however, 9th and 10th std students of Saligao, Calangute and Siolim will also be provided mid-day-meals under the scheme on a trial basis, informed Sawant. Govt also has plans to utilise the kitchen to provide food service to other govt establishments such as prisons, hospitals etc in future, said Sawant. The facility has been set up by spending more than Rs 3 crore, he informed. The Akshaya Patra shall be established and serve in South Goa soon, he said further.
▪️ Mid day meals through Self help Groups will not be discontinued
Mid day meals services presently provided through Self Help Groups(SHG) in Goa will not be discontinued. However more SHGs will not be added, informed Sawant. They will have to maintain the quality of service, he advised.
