Digital Goa, Aug 12 – All accidental benefits will be given to the families of Banastari accident victims on behalf of the state, informed CM Pramod Sawant. A husband and wife from Diwar and a 26-year-old youth from West Bengal were mowed down by a Mercedes Benz car recklessly driven by a drunk driver on Sunday night. All 3 persons who were injured in the Banastari accident are out of danger, claimed Sawant who visited them at GMC Hospital yesterday. One person will be discharged in 2-3 days and the other 2 after 8 days, he claimed. 66-year-old Shankar Halarnkar’s spine has been damaged in the accident and both his arms and one leg has been paralysed. He underwent major surgery on Thursday for cervical compression myelopathy. 21-year-old Vanita Bhandari has had multiple fractures while 27-year-old Raj Majgaonkar has sustained forehead injuries and has undergone oral and maxillofacial surgery. Questions have been raised over whether justice will really be served to the victims given the manner in which the matter is being handled by the authorities.
