All credit co-operative societies in Goa to be computerized within next one year: Shirodkar

    Digital Goa, Aug 2 – Functioning of all credit societies in Goa will be computerized within the next one year, Co-operation Minister Subhash Shirodkar informed the House today while speaking on demands for the department for grants 2023-24. This he opined will help in keeping a check on None Performing Assets (NPA). Of the 5,203 co-operative societies in Goa, around 2,500 are housing societies while 900 societies are working with or comprising of farmers, dairy, fisheries etc and 125 are credit-co-operative societies. The societies are handling Rs 12,000 crore capital. 5000 persons are employed by the sector. Shirodkar sought ‘Multipurpose’ status for the societies in Goa.
    ▪️ Dept auditors to visit co-operative societies once in a year
    To keep a check on working of the societies, auditors from the department will visit Cooperative Societies once a year and audit their working, informed Shirodkar. He said that presently administrators have been appointed on 94 institutes, 6 credit societies have been dissolved and inquiry officers have been asked to investigate their working. 40 directors have also been suspended and debarred from contesting elections, he added.
