All forest rights claims will be cleared by December 19: CM Sawant

Digital Goa, June 4- Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured that all forest rights claims (FRCs) in Goa will be disposed of by December 19, 2025. Out of the total 10,500 claims, only 871 have been disposed of so far, while 949 have been rejected for being related to non-forest land such as revenue land. 150 more Sanads have been cleared and they will be given to the claimants on June 5, he informed. The process had commenced way back in 2006 and no claims were cleared till 2019, said CM. To fast-track the process, Sawant announced that special gramsabhas will be held on June 25 to address pending FRC cases. Before that, on June 14, Deputy Collectors in six talukas will conduct special camps at the panchayat level to clear cases over 1,500 cases in these Talukas including Canacona (882), Quepem (460), Dharbandora (58), Sattari (22), Sanguem (22), and Ponda (21). On June 19, Deputy Collectors will clear 3,970 cases at their level and forward them to the respective District Collectors. The Collectors will also dispose of the 564 cases presently pending before them. CM cited several reasons for delay in clearing of FRCs , including non-participation of stakeholders in gramsabhas and meeting, withdrawal of the previously appointed agency working on the project etc.
