Assembly adjourned for 10 minutes after Opposition protest over ‘sub judice’ response by TCP Dept

Digital Goa, July 24 – Proceedings of the Goa State Legislative Assembly were briefly adjourned for 10 minutes today after Opposition MLAs stormed into the well of the House, raising slogans over the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department’s refusal to answer some questions, citing that the matter is sub judice. The protest began during Question Hour, when MLA Viresh Borkar objected to the department’s written reply regarding the criteria for constitution and selection of members to the TCP Board, which stated that the matter was sub judice. In response, TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane maintained that he was following the rule book on replies to Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQs) and stood firm on his position. Following this opposition members, except Vijai Sardessai, walked into the well of the house and the session was adjourned for 10 minutes. The Opposition demanded a ruling from the Speaker on whether questions under Rule 39A of TCP Act could be discussed if deemed sub judice by the government. The Speaker, however, deferred his response, saying the issue pertains to the government and promised to address it after the recess, while urging members to return to their seats.
