Digital Goa, August 7 – Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQs) related to the TCP Department, many of which were raised by St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar and earlier deferred, came up for discussion in the Assembly today. TCP Minister Vishwajeet Rane informed the House that under Section 39A of the TCP Act, 950 applications were received, with 200 under consideration, but final land conversion was granted in only 35 cases. However, the total land area converted under the provision was not mentioned. Rane also assured Viresh that no conversions will be permitted in critical areas including those which have been pointed out by him. He added that around 9000 applications were earlier received under Section 16B for the conversion of 1.35 crore sq mtr, but the provision has now been scrapped. Under Section 17(2), around 17 lakh sq mtr of land was converted, but the matter is before the Court.
Rane told the House that he has written to the Speaker this morning citing that even Parliament avoids discussing sub judice matters, referencing Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s statement.
