Digital Goa, Jan 18 – Goa Assembly today passed amendment to Goa Municipality Act prescribing show of hands instead of secret ballot for electing chairpersons and vice chairpersons amid pandemonium. The opposition benches demanded division of votes which was turned down by the Speaker and the controversial amendment was passed by voice vote. The Bill justified the amendment stating that the requirement of a secret ballot becomes a futile exercise and leaves a tremendous scope for discrepancies and undue influence on the councillors by vested interests while casting their votes.
