Digital Goa, Sept 6 – High Court today asked the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal to complete hearing on the claims of the affected families in the horrific Banastari bridge accident case within 6 months. The court also directed the Crime Branch Investigating Officers to present a Detailed Accident Report (DAR) within 60 days for settling of claims by the tribunal. As regards the Rs 2 crore deposited by vehicle owner Meghana Sawardekar yesterday as compensation, Court has ordered that from this amount, Rs 50 lakh each be given to the families of Suresh Fadte and Arup Karmarkar. Court ordered that the amount be deposited into the accounts of the families of the deceased. As the other victims of the accident have sustained permanent injuries, court ordered that Rs 40 lakh be given to Shankar Halarnkar, Rs 35 lakh to Vanita Bhandari and Rs 25 lakh to Raj Majgaonkar. In the horrific accident that took place on the Banastari bridge due to drunken, rash and negligent driving by Paresh Sawardekar on Aug 6, Suresh and his wife Bhavana who hailed from Diwar and Anup Karmarkar who was native of West Bengal and residing in Ponda had died on the spot. High Court today also disposed of the petitioned filed by Meghana challenging the summons issued to her by Police directing her to remain present at the Mardol Police Station for recording her statement.
