Digital Goa, Nov 20- Body of 19-year-old Derrick Raj Vaz who had drowned in abandoned stone quarry at Shiren-Chimbel was recovered by private divers today. Derrick who was a resident of Andheri, Mumbai had come to Goa to stay with his uncle. He had gone to the water filled stone quarry for an outing with a group of 7 friends yesterday evening at around 5.30 pm. He jumped into the waters along with another friend to save a girl from the group from drowning. The girl and the friend swam back to safety while Derrick drowned in the quarry. His body was recovered by private divers at around 11.30 am today. Locals informed that the place is shown as Chimbel Waterfall on Google map due to which many tourists visit the place which is very unsafe for swimming. They also informed that prior to this, similar deaths due to drowning have occurred in the quarry. Villagers urged the authorities to barricade the place and put a board prominently, restricting entry to the quarry. Local gram sabha has even taken resolutions to this effect, they added.
