Cabinet approves major hike in allowances and pension of MLAs

Digital Goa, Aug 9 – State Cabinet today approved hike in the allowances and pension of members of Goa legislative assembly. The Goa Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of The Legislative Assembly Act will be amended to this effect. The hike is expected to put an additional burden of Rs 19 crore on state coffers. Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had demanded the hike in the beginning of the ongoing state legislative assembly session.
The approved hikes are as follows –
 Allowance on the days when the session is in progress is proposed to be increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000.
 Loan limit to buy car to be increased from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 40 lakh
 Pension to be increased to Rs 30,000 per month (earlier it was Rs 15,000) and annual hike has been raised to Rs 4,000 (earlier it was Rs 2,000) with ceiling of Rs 2 lakh (earlier it was Rs 75,000)
 Allowance for petrol or diesel to be increased from 300 litres to 500 litres
 MLAs can now take 7 staff instead of earlier permitted limit of 5 staff
 Loan limit for purchasing house will be increased from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 45 lakh
 Medical bill allowance for Speaker will be increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh
