Feb 19- Cabinet today approved the creation of a dedicated Department for Drinking Water(DDW) by splitting the Public Works Department(PWD). The objective of formation of the new department is to reduce the load on PWD, make Goa self-reliant in water supply and plan for next 25 years, informed CM Sawant during the cabinet briefing. Water resources department(WRD) will be responsible to bring water to reservoirs and DDW will be responsible to supply it to people’s homes. Budgetary provisions for the new DDW department headed by the Chief Engineer will be made in the oncoming budget.
Henceforth, PWD will be only responsible for road and building construction works, even sewerage related works will be separated and assigned to Sewage & Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa which is under Finance Dept, informed CM.
Around 60-70 children of freedom fighter will be taken on permanent jobs by the govt, informed CM.
