Digital Goa, Aug 13 – Electricity dues pending for as long as four decades will finally disappear from the government’s books, with the Goa Cabinet approving the write-off of around ₹12 crore linked to 9,525 old and unrecoverable consumer accounts. The bills, some dating back 30 to 40 years, belong to consumers who are deceased, no longer exist or cannot be traced, but continued to remain as outstanding arrears in the Electricity Department’s records. The Cabinet decision will allow the department to purge these legacy accounts from its SAP billing system and clean up arrears that have virtually no possibility of recovery.

Goa Cabinet has approved a proposal to further amend the Goa Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, in line with recent decisions and recommendations of the GST Council. The same will now be introduced in the Goa Legislative Assembly during the upcoming session for consideration and passage.

The Goa Cabinet has approved a proposal allowing annual payment of tax for construction equipment vehicles, such as cranes used by the building and construction industry. The move provides an annual tax option in addition to the existing system of paying a one-time tax at the time of registration.
▪️ EWS recruitment subject shifted from Social Welfare to Personnel Department
The Goa Cabinet has approved the transfer of matters related to recruitment under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category from the Directorate of Social Welfare to the Personnel Department.
