Digital Goa, Feb 13 – There are certain permissions that can be granted for transferring water from the Mahadayi basin to outside of the basin, but there are protocols to be followed, informed Mahadayi Prawah (Progressive River Authority for Welfare and Harmony) Chairman P M Scott. “For example DPR has to be prepared based on sound data and the DPR has to be appraised by Central agencies and not by any of the party states,” he said. Mahadayi Prawah which was notified in May last year held its first meeting today. The meeting was attended by representative of all the riparian states, Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The Mahadayi Prawah has been constituted by the Union Jal Shakti Ministry to ensure fair and equitable distribution of water and also to prevent illegal diversion of water. The business rules have been framed in today’s meeting. We have been able to break the ice to facilitate the visits of the PRAWAH members to the rivers and tributaries in the Mahadayi basin. This will help acclimatise members with characteristic of the basin, informed Scott. He further said he was hopeful that the matters will be resolved amicably. He informed that the scope of the Prawah is from the origin of the rivers to its outfall in the Arabian sea. The next meeting of the Prawah will be held either in Karnataka or Maharashtra.
