Chain hunger strike launched demanding GMC linkage for Tuem Hospital

Digital Goa, Jan 11 – The Tuem Hospital Kruti Samiti (THKS) on Sunday launched a chain hunger strike demanding the immediate operationalisation of the 100-bed Tuem Hospital and its linkage with the GMC. The protest, which began on January 11, is being held in front of the Tuem Hospital building and will continue till January 15. The agitators have demanded that the facility be upgraded to function as a GMC link hospital rather than a Community Health Centre (CHC), stating that this is essential to ensure access to tertiary healthcare services for residents of Pernem and surrounding areas.Warning of an escalation, the committee has said earlier that if the demands are not met, a Mashal Yatra (torch rally) will be held at a later date, followed by a large public meeting.
