Chimbel villagers protest outside panchayat against Unity Mall project amid heavy police presence

Digital Goa, Jan 13 – Villagers of Chimbel on Tuesday staged a protest in front of the village panchayat, demanding the revocation of permissions granted to the Unity Mall project, even as a panchayat meeting was underway amid tight police security. The panchayat meeting was held after a gap of nearly 50 days, with the last meeting conducted on November 28, 2025, owing to the ZP election code of conduct and other issues, informed villagers. A heavy police presence was deployed at the site, and the law and order situation remained tense for some time. Protesting villagers said they want to know if the panchayat elected by them would support them in their fight against the project. The villagers have been protesting against the Unity Mall project for the past 16 days.
