Digital Goa, Jan 15 – Chimbel villagers continued their protest at the Merces junction throughout the day, demanding that the Unity Mall project be scrapped. A heavy police force prevented the protesters from marching towards the State Assembly. Leader of the Opposition and other opposition leaders visited the protest site and extended their support to the agitators. In a symbolic act of defiance, the protesters voluntarily went and sat inside a police vehicle, stating that if they were not allowed to march to the Assembly, they should be detained. North Goa Collector Ankit Yadav met the protesters and urged them to submit a memorandum, assuring that it would be forwarded to the government. However, the agitators told him that they had already met the Chief Minister and clearly placed their demands, and therefore did not intend to submit any additional memorandums.
