Christian man from Pakistan living in Goa since 2006 gets Indian citizenship under CAA

Digital Goa, August 25 – Indian citizenship certificate was handed over to Pakistani national Brenden Valentine Crasto under the provisions of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) today by CM Pramod Sawant. Crasto, a Roman Catholic by faith, has been residing in Anjuna since December 2, 2006. In 2014, he married Merilyn Fernandes, an Indian citizen. Sawant informed that three persons in Goa have so far been granted Indian citizenship under the CAA, while one application is still pending. The Act enables members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, who entered India on or before 31st December 2014, to obtain Indian Citizenship.
