CM firm on Unity Mall project but ready to scrap prashasan sthambh: says agitators’ delegation

Digital Goa, Jan 21 – Chimbel villagers have threatened to intensify their agitation against the Unity Mall project after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told them that the Unity Mall project cannot be scrapped. However, CM has assured them to look into their claim of Unity Mall coming under the zone of influence of wetland on Friday. A delegation of Chimbel villagers met CM Sawant on Wednesday to hear the government’s decision on the Unity Mall and Prashasan Stambh projects. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Govind Shirodkar said that CM Sawant informed them that the Prashasan Stambh project can be scrapped, but it is not possible to scrap the Unity Mall as ₹25 crore has already been spent on the site. Shirodkar said there would be no compromise on their demand to scrap the Unity Mall, and that they are ready to intensify the agitation to achieve this demand. The delegation also pointed out discrepancies in the notification declaring the land as a wetland. The Chief Minister assured them that the claims made by the villagers would be reverified by Friday.
