Sept 10 – Terming the deaths of workers at jetties are very unfortunate, CM Pramod Sawant have issued strict instructions to the Fisheries Department to ensure that hygiene standards at all fishing jetties are significantly improved and strictly maintained. Additionally, the Health Department is actively monitoring the situation and providing guidance to the workforce on maintaining proper hygiene, taking preventive measures, and ensuring early diagnosis to prevent further incidents. All the stakeholders of the trade must also ensure strict adherence to the instructions of Fisheries & Health Dept, he added. CM said that he has directed both District Collectors to closely monitor the situation on the ground, ensuring that all necessary actions are taken to safeguard the health and well-being of the workers. The safety of our workers is of utmost priority, and we will continue to work diligently to prevent such tragedies in the future, he added.
Meanwhile, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), DHS has clarified that referring to the death of labourer at Cutbona jetty by sections of the media as dengue death was misleading as the labour was suffering from severe loose motion, vomiting and high fever. Since he was taken straight from the trawler to South Goa District Hospital and was declared as brought dead, neither rapid nor confirmatory Dengue test was conducted and labeling it as dengue death was not correct, said NVBDCP.
